001

(In picture: Ayanami=Top, Teito=Bottom)

I just picked up the first 4 episodes from a friend and I watched the first episode now. So far the anime seems very interesting, and I plan on watching the next 3 episodes now. From the opening, and pilot episode it seems like the anime is going to be a magic military drama type show. The episode takes off with main character Teito dreaming of a man speaking to him whom he cannot remember, but his friend Mikage wakes him up from it. The two are in the Empire’s Military school, just about to take their final exam, which has about a 4% passing rate hah, hopefully my calc is better than that. After taking down the prisoner that their team was pitted against, Teito and Mikage are of the 19 out of 500 who pass the exam. Walking around the next day Teito overhears the sound of the necklace the man in his dream wore and investigates. Memories start rushing back and he remembers that Chief Ayanami is the one that killed King Ragg, the man and also Teito father, and Teito tries to attack the Chief, put is stopped but one of Ayanami’s bodyguards. Teito is then taken prisoner, and then Mikage finds Teito surrounded by the grounds limp bodies in the cell and helps him escape the academy. Time for episode two, I want to see where this goes.

The first of many…..we hope

Greetings - video post

Endless Setlist #2: Beginning

100_1812

Started at 1:13PM on February 21st, 2009, by Cakes, RDoom, and two other members of my hall at Lehigh University. We have been planning this was weeks, and have finally got it underway. All on expert of course, they have past the first 2 songs. Now we fear that come towards the last few teirs of songs we might run into a few problems, so we have planned subs, a bass pedal player, and ample room to quickly switch off. I find it funny that one of our writes (no posts yet) B. vicious conquered this beast by himself sort of on whim, just stocked up on soda and snacks to munch on between songs.

StarCraftII Betas coming soon

While the wait for StarCraft II may already be agonizingly long, the promise of a playable multiplayer beta helps many of us get out of bed every morning. So when will we get it?

According to Blizzard COO Paul Sams, the StarCraft II beta is likely just months away. Two months? Ten months? We hope it’s not the latter, especially since we’re counting on the first entry, StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty to hit sometime this year, if only for sanity’s sake.

While Blizzard is cagey on locking down a date, Sams says that we’ll get a taste of the next iteration of Battle.net when the StarCraft II beta goes public. Exactly what changes Blizzard will be adding to the online matching service that “support online tournaments, eSports, and enhanced communication between players” haven’t been confirmed.

Gaming causes stress?

DefyTheOdds, Games, Random Stuff | Thursday February 12 2009 12:36 am | Comments (2)

computing_stress-300x295Now most people think this is completely fake. But after reading the article it actually makes alot of sense. And after countless hours of CoD5, this makes alot of sense, everyone has been being veeeerrrry testy. Alright time for the actual details haha.

A Taiwanese study - backed by British researchers - has found that playing too many video games can (can) contribute to a a rise in stress levels and feelings of anxiety in “young people”.

The report found that many games cause a “fight or flight” reaction in the player’s mind, which can often trick the brain into releasing adrenaline into the body. Because that’s what the body needs to either fight or take flight.

Problem being that when playing games, the body doesn’t do either of those things. It just sits there. And if the adrenaline is released into the body and stays there - which it will if you don’t fight/run it out - it can contribute to an adrenaline “overload”, which in turn can lead to neurological issues like anxiety disorders.

It doesn’t mean this happens to all gamers. Nor that the effects - which are similar to that of a drug addict - mean you’re all a bunch of worthless drug addicts. They’re just sayin’, is all. Be careful.

Snoop rockin out for Harmonix

DefyTheOdds, Games, Music | Wednesday February 11 2009 3:46 pm | Comments (1)

snoop-dogg

Yup, if you know what Harmonix is the devoloper for, you know what this means. Snoop Dogg is coming Rock Band. Now I am all for new music types, but I am thinking techrock, metalcore, and some cool House vs Hurricane…..not rap…..and ganster rap at that…but oh well.

Harmonix and their flagship rhythm game Rock Band are continuing to branch out to areas that we didn’t even think possible. When country was first announced for the game, which revolves around rock music, it sent some hardcore fans up in arms. Now, Harmonix is going past the banjo and tambourine into a house of hard beats and explicit lyrics with one of the legends of the genre, Snoop Dogg.

Yes, you read that correctly; Harmonix and Snoop Dogg have reached an agreement to release Snoop’s upcoming album onto Rock Band for download. While this may irritate some of the original Rock Band enthusiasts, it’s a step in the right direction in regard to opening the “band genre” into broadened horizons. Let’s face it, Harmonix revolutionized music games completely when the original Rock Band released a couple of years ago, so who are we to judge their decision to span the franchise further than just the rock genre, despite its name?

Well it is now time for the new packs for the newest installment in the Call of Duty franchise. Like I posted last night, there will also be addons to the zombie goodness, and here are the details.

Call of Duty: World at War Map Pack 1 hits the PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 in March with four new maps, including one for the game’s cooperative Nazi Zombie mode.

Nightlife is a multiplayer map in war-ravaged Berlin.

Knee Deep will have you attacking fortified Japanese positions in a jungle setting.

Station takes place in a bombed-out underground subway station.

Finally, Verrückt (Zombie Asylum) expands the zombie-killing co-op mode with more weapons, new Perks-a-Cola machines, electroshock defenses and endless, attacking legions of undead.

No word on the price for the pack, but I do like that they’re not just adding new settings, but tweaking the zombie mode.

New Fullmetal Alchemist released set, trailer here

Anime, DefyTheOdds, Trailers | Tuesday February 10 2009 3:07 pm | Comments (0)

Now it is pretty much common knowledge among the anime community that there will be a new FMA show, and that it was set for release sometime in April, well now it is confirmed for April 5th! so mark your calenders, I think I might have to watch the raw, just so I can say I beat you guys ^_^ Here is the new trailer, and then some information regarding the announcement.

In case the previously known “April 2009″ timeframe wasn’t precise enough, the TV debut of Fullmetal Alchemist 2 Fullmetal Alchemist (2009) is now decidely set in stone for April 5, 2009. The announcement is being made in this latest promotional trailer (via Sankaku), and by now FMA 2 looks more like a remake of the original manga, rather than a sequel. In fact, even the title seems to have remained simply Fullmetal Alchemist - with no extra numerals and such. Or Hagane no Renkinjutsushi, if you prefer.

In other FMA news surfacing from this past weekend’s New York Comic Con, FUNimation expressed their intention to eventually license the new anime series. But for now it’s just that, an intention. Meanwhile, FUNi restated their plans to release the Fullmetal Alchemist Premium Collection DVD in late summer 2009. This one was originally released in Japan back in 2006, but its contents will remain the same for the stateside release: a 10 minute long original movie called “Seven Homunculi vs. State Alchemists”, two 6-minute long original anime shorts, and various other videos and features.

New Aion MMO ‘Verteron’ Trailer

Adventure, DefyTheOdds, Games, MMO, RPG, Trailers | Monday February 9 2009 9:20 pm | Comments (0)

I have been waiting for this game for so long, and I am so glad that there is finally more information.

Aion is a visually beautiful MMORPG that divides players between those that are “The Chosen” and those that are “The Fallen”. The Tower of Eternity exists as a gateway into the Abyss, and acts as a portal between dimensions. When a great evil opens the gateways, it awakens the Dragons imprisoned within the Abyss, who seek revenge on both worlds. It is here that an epic conflict begins, as you take your first steps on a journey to bring salvation to the world. In this ethereal world, you will have the power to direct dynamic relationships between angels, demons and dragons to control the fate of the world. You will evolve Aion’s storylines through social, economic and cultural experiences that are both interactive and cinematic.
